The Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) has announced the appointment of Shelly Weir as the organization’s president and CEO.
Weir currently acts as SVP of career development for the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) and its educational foundation, overseeing the strategic vision of workforce development.
Commencing her responsibilities on 5 April 2021, Weir will provide the 19,500-member institute with “extensive experience” in the association sector.
W.G. Spoor, chair of the board of directors at the FICPA, said: “We are excited for what the future holds under Shelly’s leadership. She brings a wealth of membership organization success and strategic vision to the FICPA.
“I believe her leadership and infectious energy are exactly what we need at this time.”
Prior to her stint at the AHLA, Weir led the domestic sales team at the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute, as well as working as a state director of membership at the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association.
Weir acknowledged the “rich history” that the FICPA has in “advancing the accounting profession” within Florida.
She said: “I’m honored to join the team and look forward to building upon the strong foundation in place to further promote the profession, shape public policy, and elevate the competency of our membership.”
