The Financial Accounting Foundation (FAF) has announced the appointment of Robert Hamilton to the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council (GASAC).
Currently the statewide accounting and reporting manager for Oregon, Hamilton was nominated to the role by the National Association of Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT).
Commencing from February 23 2021, Hamilton will serve a two-year term that concludes on December 31 2022, and is eligible for two further terms.
The council is tasked with advising the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) on technical issues, project priorities, and accounting and financial reporting standards.
It represents both state and local government stakeholders, such as users, preparers, and auditors of financial information.
Kathleen Casey, chair of the board at the FAF, said: “We are pleased to welcome Robert as a member of the GASAC.
“His experience with the implementation of GAAP, in addition to his committed participation in the GASB task force advising the updating of the existing concepts on note disclosures, makes him a valuable addition to the advisory council.”
Serving the state since 2012, Hamilton is tasked with a number of responsibilities, including but not limited to issuing Oregon’s audited annual financial report, maintaining the state’s accounting manual, and providing statewide direction on accounting practices.
