BKD adds two new members to its governing board

Debbie Scanlon is the regional industry leader for BKD National Financial Services Group in BKD’s South Region

BKD CPAs and Advisors has elected Debbie Scanlon and Gary Schafer to BKD’s Governing Board, effective June 1.

BKD said its governing board comprises “forward-thinking leaders” who are the firm’s policymaking body that focuses on strategic issues, firm growth and partnership matters.

Scanlon is the regional industry leader for BKD National Financial Services Group in BKD’s South Region. She has more than 30 years of experience providing audit and consulting services to a variety of financial institutions, broker-dealers, investment advisory firms and funds.

Scanlon also is the recipient of Independent Bankers Association of Texas’ (IBAT) 2017 Excellence in Leadership Award and 2013 IBAT President’s Award. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott also recently appointed Scanlon to the Finance Commission of Texas for a term set to expire on February 1, 2022.

Schafer is the managing partner of BKD’s Southern Missouri practice unit. He is responsible for the administration, planning, oversight and operations of the Springfield, Joplin and Branson offices. He’s served clients for more than 20 years, and prior to becoming managing partner, he was leader of the commercial audit practice for BKD’s Southern Missouri offices and BKD National Commercial Services Group.

He also leads the peer reviews BKD performs for large national firms and also serves as a member of the National Peer Review Committee of the American Institute of CPAs.
