BKD CPAs and Advisors has announced it has appointed Michelle Brekken to its National Office, where she’ll work with chief risk officer Mike Wolfe and accounting and auditing (A&A) leadership to provide further resources to BKD’s audit quality control (QC) to support the complex needs of clients.
Brekken started her career in BKD’s Springfield office, where she served for several years as the A&A director there.
In 2008, she relocated to the South Region and became part of BKD’s inaugural class of regional A&A directors.
CEO Tom Watson said: “Michelle is regarded as a strong leader and people developer who serves as a key resource to many throughout the firm. She is a practical problem solver and is passionate about helping others grow and succeed.”
With Brekken’s transition, the firm added that Tim Adler accepted the role of regional A&A director for BKD’s South Region, also effective from 1 June.
Adler joined BKD through the Lisle Compton combination in Oklahoma City. Adler later transferred to Jackson to become that office’s A&A director and then, after a period of time, to Houston to be its A&A director.
Watson added: “A naturally gifted teacher, Tim consistently approaches challenges as opportunities to learn and grow and is frequently sought out by others to serve as a sounding board and to provide counsel.”
With Adler’s transition, the firm said Justin Roberts has agreed to relocate to Houston later this year to become the Houston office A&A director. Roberts started his career with BKD as an auditor in the Joplin office.
Later, he agreed to complete a National Office rotation as a national A&A assistant director. After his National Office stint, Roberts was named the A&A director of BKD’s Nebraska practices. Roberts was recently selected as BKD’s partner PRIDE award recipient for his work in Nebraska coupled with his assistance with the transition of Kiesling Associates into BKD.
Watson concluded: “Michelle, Tim and Justin are great examples of quality leaders who personally live our PRIDE values. Through their talents, we can continue serving our clients with excellence.”
